Worked example / illustration

Shoot for the cutout before you upload.

A dark ceramic mug photographed on a kitchen counter.

Contrast
Even light
Room to crop
  1. 01

Move the mug in front of a white sheet so its edge contrasts with the background.

  2. 02

Light it from a window or two lamps so the shadow stays soft and small.

  3. 03

Leave space around the handle so the marketplace crop never cuts it off.

Review checkpoint. A clean source photo gives a clean edge; no tool rebuilds a cropped handle.

How do I remove the background from a product photo?

Choose your marketplace, drop the photo into the box above, and download the PNG when it is ready, usually within a minute. CatalogCut cuts the product out, places it on pure white and exports it at that marketplace's size.

The free tool handles one photo at a time. For a whole catalog, a free account processes batches of up to 30 photos with the same crop, padding and shadow settings on every image.

What size is the downloaded photo?

Each marketplace gets the size its listings display best. These are the sizes the tool exports today:

Amazon: 2000 × 2000 px, which allows zoom on the product page
Etsy: 2700 × 2025 px, a 4:3 frame that suits Etsy's listing gallery
Shopify: 2048 × 2048 px square
eBay: 1600 × 1600 px square
Poshmark: 1200 × 1600 px portrait

How do I get the cleanest cutout?

Most failed cutouts come from the source photo, not the tool. A few minutes of setup saves editing every image afterwards.

Shoot against a plain background that contrasts with the product, such as a white sheet behind a dark mug
Use soft, even light from a window or two lamps so edges stay sharp and shadows stay small
Keep the whole product in frame with some space around it; cropped edges cannot be rebuilt
Photograph glass, fur and fine jewelry chains closer and in focus, because thin edges are the hardest to separate

Why do marketplaces want a white background?

Amazon requires the main image of most products to sit on pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255). eBay, Etsy and Shopify do not require it, but a consistent white background makes a shop look like one catalog and keeps thumbnails readable at small sizes.

Use white for the first image and lifestyle or on-model shots for the rest of the gallery. CatalogCut Stage turns the same product photo into those scenes.

What the free tool does not do

It returns one white-background PNG per photo. A free account adds other background and drop-shadow options and batches; reflections, watermarks and several export sizes at once are on paid plans.

Free guest results are deleted after 15 minutes, so download yours straight away. Each network gets a small number of free guest photos a day; a free account raises that to a weekly allowance.

Frequently asked questions

Is the product photo background remover really free?

Yes. One photo at a time is free on this page with no account and no watermark. A free account adds a weekly allowance for batches.

Can I remove backgrounds from many product photos at once?

Yes, with a free account. Batches take up to 30 photos and apply the same crop, padding, shadow and export settings to each.

Does it keep my product exactly as photographed?

Yes. Cutout separates the product from its background and does not redraw it, so labels, text and colours stay as they are in your photo.

Which file types can I upload?

JPEG, PNG and WebP. HEIC photos from iPhones need converting first, or change the camera setting to Most Compatible.
