CatalogCut tools

Add a shadow to your product photo.

Place a contact shadow, drop shadow or fading reflection beneath a cutout. Adjust the softness and position, choose a background, then download a PNG or JPEG.

Free. No account. Your photo stays in your browser.

Still JPEG or PNG, up to 15 MB and 4 megapixels. Neither side above 4096 px. Nothing is uploaded.

White-background photos

Optional. Removes near-white pixels connected to an edge. It can erase white products or labels that touch the background. Check the alpha mask before downloading.

PNG keeps transparency when the background is transparent.

Exports are re-encoded and drop metadata, including AI tags. Tag the final image if needed.

Image preview

The grey surrounding a transparent PNG is only the preview surface.

Choose a cutout to place a shadow beneath it.

Alpha mask: white is kept, black is transparent. Grey is partially transparent.

Soft contact and drop shadows include a fallback for browsers without native canvas blur.

Need a cleaner cutout? Remove the product background before adding a shadow.

How do I add a shadow without changing the product?

Start with a transparent PNG and choose an effect. The contact style draws an ellipse beneath the visible product; drop shadow uses its alpha shape; reflection flips and fades the visible product. Your product pixels are drawn over the effect.

Opacity controls strength, blur controls softness, and offsets move the effect. Extra padding adds clear space, while the canvas also grows automatically to retain the original image and the effect. This tool applies geometry; it does not infer a surface, create a cutout with AI or reconstruct the scene's lighting.

Can a white-background JPEG work?

Yes, with care. Enable near-white removal only if the background should be removed. It removes connected near-white areas from the edges and can also remove white product details that touch those areas. The alpha mask shows what remains: white is kept, black is transparent.

For a white product, complex edges or a background that is not plain white, remove the background first and inspect the cutout before adding a shadow. Without transparency, an opaque image casts a rectangular drop shadow.

Which format should I download?

Choose PNG to keep a transparent background, or JPEG for a flattened image. JPEG places any transparent areas onto white. A custom background colour is included in either format.

Export re-encodes the image and drops metadata, including AI-disclosure tags. If the image needs those tags, use the AI image metadata tagger on the final file. Review the final appearance and your destination's current requirements before publishing.

Questions

Is this product shadow tool free?

Yes. Add a shadow and download the result without an account. The image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded.

Which images work best?

A still PNG with a transparent background works best because its alpha channel describes the product shape. JPEG and opaque PNG files also work, but the shadow follows their rectangular image unless you remove the background. Inputs are limited to 15 MB, 4 megapixels and 4096 px per side.

Can I remove a white background here?

The optional near-white setting removes near-white pixels connected to the image edges. It is off by default because it can erase white products or labels that touch the background. Check the alpha mask, or use the separate background remover for a cleaner cutout.

What is the difference between the three effects?

Contact creates a blurred ellipse beneath the product's visible bounds. Drop shadow blurs an offset copy of the product's alpha shape. Reflection flips the visible product vertically and fades it away from its base. These are geometric effects, not AI lighting reconstruction. Soft contact and drop shadows include a browser fallback; reflection needs blur set to 0 if native canvas blur is unavailable.

Will my product be cropped or resized?

The tool keeps the complete input image at its decoded pixel size and expands the output to include the effect and extra padding. It refuses results above 8 megapixels or 6000 px per side instead of cropping them. Reduce blur, offsets or padding if you reach the output limit.

Does the download keep transparency and AI metadata?

PNG keeps transparency when you choose a transparent background. JPEG flattens transparent areas onto white. Both formats are re-encoded and drop metadata, including AI-disclosure tags, so add any required tags to the final file with the AI image metadata tagger.
