Compress product photos to a target file size.
Choose a maximum file size, then compress up to 20 JPEG, PNG or WebP photos to JPEG or WebP. Quality adjusts first; dimensions shrink only if needed. Download files individually or together as a ZIP.
Free. No account. Your photos stay in your browser.
Choose a file size
1 KB = 1,000 bytes. 1 MB = 1,000 KB. Target: at most 999,999 bytes.
JPEG is the safer choice for Etsy and Walmart. A preset sets bytes only; it does not check marketplace dimensions or approval.
JPEG, PNG or WebP. Up to 30 MB each, 80 MB of source files per batch, 16 megapixels and 8,000px per side. Downloads are limited to 40 MB per batch.
Photos stay in this browser. Re-encoding removes original metadata, including AI-disclosure tags. Add AI tags to the final JPEG. JPEG turns transparent areas white.

How do I compress a photo under a file size?
Choose a target and download format, add your photos, then select Compress photos. The tool measures each encoded file and only offers a successful result when its bytes fit your target. It tries quality settings between 40% and 95%, then reduces dimensions in steps if necessary.
The target is a ceiling. It does not add padding to reach an exact byte count, and it may produce a larger file than your original if that original was already efficient. Original and output sizes are shown together. Read small labels, seams and fine details in the downloaded file before uploading.
Which marketplace file size should I choose?
Etsy’s 1 MB preset addresses its warning about uploads on slower connections. Walmart’s US image guide lists 5 MB or less, eBay’s uploader accepts up to 12 MB per photo, and Shopify requires product and collection images smaller than 20 MB. Our presets use decimal megabytes and target one byte below those values.
These are byte targets, not complete compliance checks. JPEG is a practical starting format for these listing workflows. Use WebP only where the destination accepts it. If compression reduces dimensions too far, raise the target and review the marketplace size guide and official category requirements.
What changes when I re-encode a product photo?
Compression trades image detail for fewer bytes. Converting a transparent image to JPEG adds a white background; WebP can retain transparency. Your original files remain available on your device. Animated inputs and HEIC are not supported.
Canvas export removes original metadata, including AI-disclosure fields. For an AI-created photo, use JPEG and add the required AI tags after compression. If you need to keep the original dimensions and recognized JPEG or PNG AI tags during optimization, try the image optimizer.

Questions
Will the file be exactly the number of KB I enter?
The target is an upper bound, not a padded file size. A successful download has no more than the displayed target bytes. Files can be smaller. If the tool cannot meet the target at its minimum dimensions, it reports an error instead of offering an oversized result.
Does compression change the dimensions or crop my photo?
The tool first adjusts encoding quality at the original dimensions. If the file is still too large, it reduces both dimensions in steps without cropping. It stops at a 320px long side, or the original long side if smaller. The result shows the original and output dimensions; check marketplace minimums before uploading.
Is Etsy limited to 1 MB per photo?
The Etsy preset is upload guidance, not a hard platform limit. Etsy warns that images larger than 1 MB may not finish uploading on slower connections. The preset targets less than 1,000,000 bytes. Keep enough pixels for a useful listing image and check the current Etsy guidance.
What happens to transparency and AI metadata?
JPEG output places transparent pixels on white. WebP output can keep transparency. Canvas re-encoding removes original metadata, including AI-disclosure tags. Add the required AI tags again after compression; CatalogCut’s tagger can write JPEG and PNG, so choose JPEG if you need that workflow.
Are my photos uploaded, and how many can I process?
Photos are processed in your browser without an account or upload. Choose up to 20 still JPEG, PNG or WebP files, at most 30 MB per file and 80 MB per batch. Images must be no larger than 16 megapixels and 8,000px per side. Completed downloads are limited to 40 MB per batch. Smaller batches work better on phones.
Does a marketplace preset guarantee my photo will be accepted?
No. It sets a byte target only. Format, dimensions, background, product accuracy and category rules still apply. JPEG is the safer choice for Etsy and Walmart because their cited image guidance does not list WebP. Inspect the final image before publishing.
